Klaka Rechtsanwälte

Editorial coverage
Germany
Klaka Rechtsanwälte is one of Germany's IP boutiques that still dominate the patent contentious rankings. Some competitors note that the firm is relatively small, with the burden of the work and prestige falling on the shoulders of a few. However, those familiar with the individuals consider its expertise second to none, and note that it appears often in patent litigation.

The boutique is especially well reputed in its home town of Munich, where it is considered a "very fine old Munich firm" in the words of one competitor. Wolfgang Goetz is on the executive committee of the Munich Bar Association. Another IP lawyer says that Klaka has "some of Germany's pre-eminent litigators". "We team up with them a lot", says one prosecution firm, "and they really are very good in litigation."

In key cases in 2009 the firm represented BMW in a counterfeit case against a Chinese company, Novartis and Ciba Vision Corporation against Johnson & Johnson in a multijurisdictional contact lense patent infringement case, and Winthrop in the high profile olanzapine case at Düsseldorf Court. Ralf Hackbarth and Olaf Giebe led in these cases.
