Dr. Carola Onken becomes partner at KLAKA Rechtsanwälte

Munich, 01.02.2016: The IP law firm KLAKA Rechtsanwälte has taken on Dr. Carola Onken as a partner. The lawyer, a specialist in providing advice and representing businesses and trade federations in the fields of trade mark and unfair competition law, is a member of the partnership’s Munich office. In total, KLAKA Rechtsanwälte now has 12 partners and 5 associates.

“Carola Onken has had an impressive career in the law firm, and stands out thanks to her high level of specialist knowledge and an excellent record in litigation,” comments partner Dr. Ralf Hackbarth. “She has prevailed in very complex proceedings for renowned clients of our partnership before both German and European courts. We are now delighted to count her amongst our partners.”

Her activities focus not only on trade mark and unfair competition law, but also on German and European registration and opposition proceedings, the drafting  and review of trade mark licence contracts and representing clients before the European courts (the General Court of the European Union – EGC – and the Court of Justice of the European Union – ECJ).

Thus, together with Dr. Andreas Schulz, Dr. Carola Onken recently obtained a high-profile fundamental ruling at the ECJ. She also represents the Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne for the protection of the valuable Champagne indication of origin. She has been involved, together with Dr. Michael Nieder, in obtaining numerous important decisions to protect this indication of origin. The Federal Supreme Court will shortly decide on the Champagne-Sorbet case. Dr. Carola Onken is also a member of the French professional association for the protection of intellectual property (APRAM).

Dr. Carola Onken studied at the University of Passau and at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, acquiring her PhD at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg under Prof. Dr. Olaf Sosnitza with a thesis on the likelihood of confusion in name trade marks in 2010.
